Many of us live like we have to earn God's love. We try harder, do more, and quietly keep score, hoping our good days outweigh the bad. But salvation was never a paycheck for good behavior. It is a gift, given because of God's mercy alone.
That truth changes how you handle today's failures. When you slip, whether it's a sharp word, a proud thought, or an old habit creeping back, you don't have to claw your way into God's good graces. You return to Him the same way you came the first time: through mercy, not performance.
Purity works this way too. Real heart change doesn't come from white-knuckle willpower; it comes from the Holy Spirit renewing you from the inside out. So instead of just trying harder, invite Him in. Ask Him to wash away what's weighing you down and make you fresh.
Here's a simple way to live this out: each morning, honestly admit you need God's mercy, and each night, thank Him for it. And when someone around you fails or frustrates you, pass along a small piece of the grace you've freely received. Mercy received becomes mercy given.
Dear Lord, thank You that Your love for me doesn't depend on my performance. Wash me clean today and renew my heart by Your Spirit. Help me rest in Your mercy and share it freely with others. Amen.
