Song of Songs 1:2

There's no pretending here, no playing it cool. This is love saying out loud what the heart feels — I want to be close to you. Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to hide that kind of honesty, even from the people we love most.

If you're married, ask yourself: when was the last time you showed affection without a reason? A real kiss at the door, a warm word across the kitchen, holding hands during a show. Love rarely fades from one big wound; it usually fades when everyday tenderness gets crowded out by busy schedules and screens.

This longing says something about our souls, too. We were made for closeness — with a spouse, yes, but also with God. It's possible to know about Him for years and still keep Him at a safe distance.

So today, say the affectionate thing out loud instead of assuming they already know. Show love in a way that can be felt, not just assumed. And when you pray, don't just hand over your list — sit near Him for a moment. Closeness is something we choose, one small moment at a time.

Dear Lord, thank You for making us for love and nearness. Help me show real affection to the people You've placed in my life, and help me want You close, not just comfortable. Draw me near today. Amen.
