Most of us work hard to pay off our debts. We budget, we sacrifice, we celebrate when a balance hits zero. But Paul points to one debt that never gets paid off: love. No matter how much you loved someone yesterday, you still owe it to them today.
That might sound exhausting, but it's actually freeing. It means love isn't a feeling you have to drum up; it's a simple assignment you can act on. Today, someone around you needs patience. Someone needs forgiveness. Someone just needs you to really listen.
So make it practical. Send the text you've been putting off. Let the small offense go instead of keeping score. Show up for the person who's hard to love, not because they earned it, but because you owe it. That kind of love, Jesus said, sums up everything God has been asking of us all along.
Tonight, before your head hits the pillow, ask yourself one honest question: who did I owe love to today, and did I pay? If you missed someone, there's grace for that, and tomorrow brings a fresh chance. Love is the one debt you'll carry your whole life, and the one that makes life rich.
Dear Lord, open my eyes to the people around me who need Your love today. Help me pay that debt gladly, without keeping score. Make my love so real that it points others straight to You. Amen.
