Romans 12:10

Real love isn't mostly about big gestures. It shows up in how we treat people in ordinary moments — the tone we use at the breakfast table, the patience we offer a slow coworker, the kindness we give a family member who gets on our nerves. God calls us to be genuinely affectionate toward each other, not just politely tolerant.

Notice how this pushes against our natural instincts. We like being recognized, appreciated, and put first. But honoring someone means treating them as valuable before they've earned it — listening fully instead of waiting for your turn to talk, giving credit instead of taking it, celebrating someone else's win like it's your own.

Try this today: pick one person you will deliberately put first. Let your spouse choose the restaurant, let a friend finish their story without jumping in with your own, or privately thank someone who usually gets overlooked. Small choices like these are where real love takes root.

And don't skip the people who are hard to honor — the difficult relative, the irritating neighbor, the coworker who rubbed you wrong. Honoring them doesn't mean pretending everything is fine. It means treating them with dignity, because that's exactly how God treats you.

Father, forgive me for the times I've put myself first. Give me a tender, humble heart that notices others and lifts them up. Help me honor someone today the way You have honored me. Amen.
