Romans 11:18

It's easy to quietly take credit for the good things in our lives. The job we worked hard for, the family we've built, the faith we've grown — somewhere along the way, we start thinking we did it all ourselves. But a branch never feeds itself. Everything it needs comes from the root, and the moment it's cut off, it withers.

Today, ask yourself an honest question: where am I standing a little too tall? Maybe it's looking down on someone who struggles differently than you, or assuming you've outgrown your need for God. Humility starts with simply admitting the truth — every good thing in your life flows from a Source outside of you.

This also changes how we treat people. If none of us sustained ourselves, then none of us has grounds for looking down on anyone. That coworker, that family member, that stranger at church — they stand on the same ground of grace you do. Comparison loses its power when gratitude takes its place.

Here's a simple practice: each morning this week, name one thing you didn't earn and thank God for it out loud. Gratitude is the fastest way to pull pride up by its roots. Stay connected to the Source, and you'll find yourself growing steadier — and softer — every day.

Father, forgive me for the times I've taken credit for what only You could do. Keep me rooted in Your grace, humble in my success, and gentle toward everyone around me. Amen.
