I John, your brother and partner with you in the oppression, Kingdom, and perseverance in Christ Jesus, was on the isle that is called Patmos because of God’s Word and the testimony of Jesus Christ.
John didn't write those words from a cozy office or a peaceful retirement. He was stuck on a small, rocky island — essentially a prison — simply because he refused to stay quiet about Jesus. If you're in a hard season right now, take heart: your difficult place doesn't disqualify you from God's purposes.
Notice how John describes himself — not as a famous apostle looking down on the churches, but as their brother and partner. He was in the trenches with them, sharing the pressure, the hope, and the daily choice to keep going. That's good news for us too: suffering isn't proof that God has left you; it's often where He does His deepest work.
So how do we live this out? When life squeezes you — an unfair situation at work, a health battle, a lonely stretch — resist asking only 'Why me?' and try asking, 'Lord, what can You do with me right here?' That one question can turn your prison into a mission field.
Endurance is rarely dramatic. Most days it's simply showing up one more time — still praying, still loving people, still speaking about God's goodness when it would be easier to complain. Do the small faithful thing today, and trust God with the big picture.
Dear Father, thank You that You meet us even on our Patmos — in the places we never would have chosen. Give us strength to persevere with hope and to keep sharing Your goodness right where we are. In Jesus' name, Amen.
