Psalms 5:11

Joy isn't something we have to work up on our own. This verse reminds us that real joy comes from taking refuge in God. When life feels uncertain—when the bills pile up, the news is heavy, or your heart is tired—you have a safe place to run. And that safe place is exactly where joy begins.

So here's a practical starting point: before you check your phone or turn on the news tomorrow morning, take one minute to say, "God, You are my refuge today." Put your worries in His hands before you put the weight of the world on your shoulders. That small habit changes the tone of everything that follows.

Notice that the verse doesn't say to whisper for joy—it says to shout. There's something powerful about expressing your joy out loud. Sing in the car. Tell a friend one specific thing you're thankful for. Speak God's goodness over your day instead of complaining about it, even when circumstances haven't changed yet.

And remember, this joy isn't pretending everything is fine. It's the deep confidence that God defends you and goes before you. When you love His name and stay close to Him, joy becomes your steady anchor—not because life is easy, but because God is faithful.

Father, thank You for being my refuge and my defender. Help me to choose joy today—not the kind that depends on my circumstances, but the kind that flows from trusting You. Let my life shout Your goodness so others can see it too. Amen.
