Some days feel heavy for no clear reason. Your heart sinks before your feet hit the floor, and you cannot always point to why. The writer of this psalm knew that feeling, and notice, he did not pretend it away. He got honest with his own soul.
Psalms 43:5

Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him: my Savior, my helper, and my God.
That is the first practical step: talk to yourself instead of just listening to yourself. When discouraging thoughts keep looping in your head, pause and ask why you feel this way. Naming the weight out loud, even in plain, unpolished words, begins to loosen its grip.
Then comes the turn: put your hope in God. Hope is not pretending everything is fine; it is remembering who God is when everything is not. He has been your helper before, and He has not stopped being your helper now. Recall one specific time He carried you, and let that memory steady you today.
Finally, praise before the feelings catch up. Hum a song of worship on your commute, whisper thanks while washing dishes, or simply tell God you still trust Him. Praise shifts your eyes from the size of your problem to the size of your Savior, and often the heaviness starts to lift.
Dear Lord, when my soul feels low, remind me that You are still my Savior, my helper, and my God. Help me speak hope to my own heart today and choose praise even when I do not feel like it. Thank You for never letting go of me. Amen.
