There are two kinds of gladness in life. One comes from good circumstances — a raise at work, a full pantry, good news from the doctor. The other kind comes straight from God, planted deep in your heart, and it doesn't depend on any of those things.
Psalms 4:7
Shared devotional content from the common study platform.
You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and their new wine are increased.
You've probably tasted both. Maybe you got something you really wanted, and the excitement faded within a week. But then there were quiet, ordinary moments when God's peace filled you anyway. That deeper gladness is what He offers you today.
So here's a practical step: before you chase the next thing on your list, pause and thank God for what He's already placed in your life — His forgiveness, His presence, the people who love you. Write down three of those gifts. Gratitude is how we make room for His joy.
And if you're in a lean season right now — money tight, plans falling through — remember that God's gladness isn't measured by your harvest. It's available even when the barn is empty. Ask Him for it, and let Him fill what circumstances can't.
Father, thank You that Your joy doesn't depend on my circumstances. Fill my heart with Your gladness today, and open my eyes to the good gifts You've already given. In Jesus' name, Amen.
