Have you ever read your Bible and walked away remembering nothing? Most of us have. The psalmist shows us a better way: before we read, we ask God to open our eyes. Seeing wonderful things in Scripture is not something we muster up on our own; it is something God gives.
So here is a simple habit to start today. Before you open your Bible, pause and pray one short sentence: “Lord, open my eyes.” That small prayer turns your reading time from a checkbox into a conversation. You are no longer just reading words on a page; you are asking God to speak.
Some days, the Word will feel dry. You will read a chapter and feel nothing stir inside you. This is where endurance comes in. Keep showing up anyway, because God often reveals His wonders to the people who keep seeking even when the feelings are quiet.
You do not need hours for this, either. Even five minutes with a praying heart matters. Ask God to show you one thing each day: one promise to hold onto, one truth about His love, one step of obedience. Then carry that one thing with you into your work, your family, and your struggles.
The more you come expecting God to speak, the more you will find that He does. His Word really does hold wonders, and He delights to reveal them to eyes that are opened.
Father, open my eyes to see the wonderful things in Your Word. Give me endurance to keep showing up, even on the days when I feel nothing. Thank You that You meet me every time I come to You. Amen.
