The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.
Loving God means more than just avoiding bad things—it means actually disliking what He dislikes. That might sound strange, but think about it: when you love someone, your heart lines up with theirs. And at the top of God's list of things to hate is pride, because pride quietly puts us in His place.
So where does pride hide in your life today? Maybe it's needing to have the last word, struggling to say sorry, or feeling stingy when someone else gets credit. Here's a simple test: when someone corrects you, what happens in your heart first? Defensiveness is often pride knocking at the door.
God also hates a perverse mouth, and that's a word check for all of us. Gossip, sarcasm that cuts, half-truths that make us look better—these little things damage real people. Before you speak today, pause and ask: is this true, is it kind, and does it honor God?
The good news is humility grows in small, everyday choices. Admit a mistake quickly, even when no one would notice. Serve someone without mentioning it. Ask God to open your eyes to one proud habit this week, then hand it over to Him. That's what it looks like to walk closely with Him.
Dear Lord, show me the pride I've gotten comfortable with and give me the courage to hate it like You do. Help me speak words that are true and kind, and to live humbly today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
