Proverbs 3:7

We all like to think we've got things figured out. Our plans make sense to us, our opinions feel right, and it's easy to trust our own judgment without ever questioning it. But Scripture lovingly warns us that self-reliance can be the very thing that leads us astray.

So what does it look like to fear God instead of leaning on yourself? It starts with humility. Before you make a decision today, pause and actually ask God what He thinks. Read His Word before you trust your gut. Let Him have the final say, not just when it's convenient, but in your money, your relationships, and your work.

And notice the second half: turn away from evil. That's not a one-time event; it's a daily choice. When a shortcut at work feels tempting, when a gossip conversation pulls you in, when a small compromise seems harmless, walk the other way. Wisdom isn't just knowing what's right. It's doing it, even when nobody's watching.

Here's the good news: you don't have to figure out life alone. God promises to make your paths straight when you acknowledge Him. Trusting His wisdom over your own isn't losing control. It's finally placing your life in the hands of Someone who actually sees the whole picture.

Ask yourself tonight: where did I lean on my own understanding today? Then bring that to God tomorrow with an open hand. That simple habit, repeated daily, is what a wise life is built on.

Father, forgive me for the times I've trusted my own thinking more than You. Give me a humble heart that seeks Your wisdom first and the courage to walk away from anything that pulls me from You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
