Proverbs 28:9

Prayer is a conversation, not a one-way street. If we close our ears to what God says, we can't expect our words to Him to carry weight. Listening to God always comes before talking to God.

One of the most common ways we stop listening is by refusing to forgive. God's Word is clear that we are to forgive others, so every grudge we hold is another day of tuning Him out. Jesus even warned that unforgiveness can block our prayers entirely.

So here's a practical question: is there someone whose name makes your heart harden? Maybe a family member who hurt you, a friend who betrayed you, or a coworker who wronged you. Unforgiveness doesn't punish them—it silences your own prayers.

Take one small step today. Pray a blessing over that person, even if you don't feel it. Or send the message you've been avoiding. When your ears are open to God's instruction, your prayers become powerful again, and your heart gets lighter too.

Dear Lord, soften my heart so I can truly hear You. Show me anyone I need to forgive, and give me the courage to let go of old hurts. Thank You for always listening to me. Amen.
