Proverbs 28:26

We all want to believe we can figure life out on our own. But Proverbs gives us a straight-up warning: leaning only on your own understanding leads to trouble. Why? Because our perspective is limited, our emotions are fickle, and our pride blinds us to what we cannot see.

Think about the last big decision you made — a job change, a purchase, a hard conversation. Did you pause to pray, or did you just go with your gut? Going with your gut isn't wrong, but gut-only decisions often skip the wisdom God wants to give us through His Word and through the wise people around us.

Here's a simple practice for this week: before your next decision, big or small, stop and ask two questions. First, what does God say about this? Second, who in my life is wise enough to give me honest counsel? It might feel slow, but it's far safer than fast.

Trusting in yourself is really pride in disguise. The wise person isn't the one with all the answers — it's the one humble enough to admit they need them. When you lean on God instead of your own judgment, you walk with a protection you could never manufacture on your own.

Father, forgive me for the times I've leaned on my own understanding and shut You out. Teach me to seek Your wisdom first and to listen to the godly people You've placed in my life. Help me walk humbly with You today. Amen.
