Think about the five people you spend the most time with. Without even trying, you are picking up their habits, their attitudes, and their way of seeing the world. That is just how God made us. We become like the voices we listen to most.
Proverbs 13:20
Shared devotional content from the common study platform.
One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
So take an honest look at your inner circle. Who do you call when you need advice? Whose posts fill your social media feed? Ask yourself a simple question: are these voices pulling me closer to God and wise living, or quietly pulling me away?
This is not about looking down on people or cutting off everyone who is struggling. Jesus loved all kinds of people, and so should we. But there is a big difference between loving people and letting them steer your life. Keep loving everyone, but let wise, God-honoring people speak loudest into your decisions.
Here is a practical step for this week: intentionally move toward one wise person. Invite a mature believer to coffee, join a small group, or ask someone you admire how they handle a challenge you are facing. At the same time, loosen your grip on influences that drag you into foolishness, including the ones on your phone.
Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of good people in my life. Show me honestly who is shaping me, and give me the courage to draw near to wisdom and step away from what harms me. Make my friendships a path that leads me closer to You. Amen.
