Proverbs 12:15

Every one of us has blind spots. We can be absolutely convinced we're right about something—a decision at work, a word we said to a family member, a financial choice—and still be completely off. That's the trap this proverb warns about: trusting our own judgment so much that we stop listening to anyone else.

Here's the honest question to sit with today: when was the last time you actually asked someone for advice before making a decision? Not after the fact, not just telling people what you've already decided, but genuinely inviting input while the door is still open. If it's been a while, pride may be quietly steering the ship.

So practice it this week. Before a big choice, call someone you trust—someone with a track record of wisdom, not just someone who agrees with you. Ask a specific question like, "What am I missing here?" or "Would you handle this differently?" Then do the hard part: listen without defending yourself.

Wise people aren't the ones who know everything. They're the ones humble enough to hear others out. When you invite counsel, you're not admitting weakness—you're protecting yourself from expensive mistakes and growing faster than you ever could alone.

Father, I confess I often trust my own eyes more than the wisdom of others. Give me the humility to ask for counsel and the patience to truly listen. Thank You for the people You've placed in my life to help me see clearly. Amen.
