There are two kinds of people in this verse: those who listen and learn, and those who just keep talking. The wise person doesn't have to have the last word. They hear instruction, take it in, and act on it. The fool, on the other hand, fills the air with words and ends up falling flat.

The wise in heart accept commandments, but a chattering fool will fall.
Think about how you respond when someone corrects you or gives you direction. Do you get defensive, explain yourself, or immediately start talking about your side of things? A wise heart pauses, says thank you, and considers whether there's truth in what was said. That simple habit—accepting instruction instead of arguing—will save you from a lot of unnecessary trouble.
This also applies to how we treat God's Word. It's easy to hear a sermon, nod along, and then go about the day unchanged. But wisdom isn't just knowing what God says; it's doing it. Today, pick one thing you already know God has asked of you—forgiving someone, being honest, guarding your words—and actually follow through.
And watch your mouth. We live in a world where everyone shares their opinion instantly, but constant talking often drowns out the guidance we need. Try listening more than you speak this week. You'll be surprised how much wisdom shows up when you finally stop talking long enough to receive it.
Dear Lord, give me a humble heart that welcomes correction instead of resisting it. Teach me to be quick to listen and slow to speak, so I can walk in Your wisdom. Amen.
