“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?
There is a big difference between not knowing something and not wanting to know it. Sometimes we stay comfortable with what we already think because learning the truth might demand a change. But God loves us too much to let us stay stuck, so He keeps asking, gently and patiently, how long we plan to drift along without growing.
Wisdom is not reserved for scholars or pastors. It is for anyone willing to slow down, ask honest questions, and let God do the teaching. Maybe that means opening your Bible before you open your phone, or asking for advice instead of pretending you have it all figured out.
Watch out for mockery, too. It is easy to laugh off a sermon, dismiss a friend's challenge, or roll your eyes at what you do not understand. Cynicism feels safe, but it quietly shuts the door on growth. A teachable heart instead says, Lord, show me what I am missing.
So take one small step today toward real knowledge. Read a chapter of Proverbs, ask someone wiser than you a genuine question, or write down one area of life where you have been avoiding the truth. When you turn toward God like that, you will find He is already turned toward you, ready to pour out understanding.
Dear Lord, forgive me for the times I have preferred my own comfort over Your truth. Give me a humble, teachable heart that hungers for Your knowledge more than my own opinions. Teach me today, one step at a time. Amen.
