After the people heard God's Word, they were weeping over their failures, and honestly, that grief made sense. But God's answer wasn't more sadness. It was an invitation to celebrate. Sometimes we think being spiritual means staying heavy, yet God often wants us to lift our heads and rejoice.
Nehemiah 8:10

Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved, for the joy of Yahweh is your strength.”
Notice how practical the celebration was: enjoy a good meal, savor something sweet, treat the day as special. God isn't against pleasure; He's the Giver of every good gift. Today, don't rush past the small joys right in front of you, like a warm meal, a good laugh, or a quiet moment. Receive them on purpose, as gifts from His hand.
But joy was never meant to stop with us. The people were told to send food to anyone who had nothing ready. That's our invitation too: find someone this week who's lonely, stressed, or stretched thin, and share something real, whether it's a meal, groceries, your time, or a kind word. Shared joy multiplies.
And when your own strength runs out, remember this: God's joy isn't a mood you have to manufacture. It flows from knowing He is with you and He is good, even on the hardest days. Let His joy carry you when willpower can't.
Dear Lord, thank You that Your joy is a gift and not something I have to earn. Help me receive Your blessings with a grateful heart and share them generously with someone who needs encouragement today. Amen.
