Not everyone who talks about God is actually speaking for God. Some of the most dangerous voices sound the sweetest and look the most respectable. Jesus gave this warning because He knew how easily we trust what looks good on the outside.
This matters more today than ever. We live in a world of podcasts, social media, and a never-ending stream of teachers on our screens. Anyone with a microphone and confidence can sound convincing, so we need more than good feelings to guide us. We need discernment.
Here is the practical key: test everything against Scripture. When a teaching sounds inspiring, slow down and open your Bible before you hit share or send that donation. Ask yourself, does this line up with God's Word, or does it just line up with what I want to hear?
Also, watch the fruit. Pay attention to how a person lives, not just how they preach. Do their choices reflect Jesus? Do they point you toward Christ, or mainly toward themselves?
This is not a call to be suspicious of everyone. It is a call to stay rooted in God's truth so you can recognize a counterfeit. The better you know the Shepherd's voice, the easier it becomes to spot a wolf.
Father, give me discernment to recognize voices that do not come from You. Keep me rooted in Your Word so I am not swayed by smooth talk or charming personalities. Guard my heart and lead me in Your truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
