About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,“Eli, Eli, lima sabachthani?” That is,“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
On the cross, Jesus spoke words written in an ancient psalm hundreds of years before, fulfilling prophecy in His final agonizing hour. But this wasn't just a script being played out. It was the Son of God experiencing real abandonment, real silence from heaven. He stepped into that darkness so that you and I would never have to face it truly alone.
Notice something remarkable: Jesus prayed His pain out loud. He didn't sugarcoat it or pretend the agony wasn't real. If the sinless Son of God could cry out in raw honesty, then your unfiltered prayers are welcome too. God is not offended by your questions, your tears, or your hardest days.
Maybe today you feel far from God. Remember that distance is a feeling, not always a fact. Because Jesus was forsaken in your place, God has promised never to leave you. When heaven seems quiet, the cross is your proof that He is near.
This week, practice honest prayer. Instead of hiding your hurt behind polite words, tell God exactly where it aches. And if someone you love is suffering, don't rush to fix them. Sometimes the most Christ-like thing you can do is sit with them in the dark and keep pointing them gently toward the Father who hears even in the silence.
Dear Lord, thank You that Jesus cried out in abandonment so that I would never have to be alone. Help me bring You my honest heart instead of hiding my pain. Remind me today that the cross is proof You are near, even when You feel silent. Amen.
