On the night before He died, Jesus sat at a table with His closest friends and told them that forgiveness was about to become a done deal. Not something to be earned, negotiated, or paid back — but a gift already purchased. When you feel the weight of your past, remember this: the price for your sin has been paid in full.

for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins.
Still, many of us live like the payment never happened. We replay old failures, apologize for the same sin for the tenth time, and quietly believe God is keeping score. But if Christ's sacrifice covers you completely, then carrying that guilt around is like paying for something that's already been purchased. You can put the receipt down.
This forgiveness was never meant to stop with you. Jesus said His blood was poured out for many — and that includes the person who hurt you. Forgiving them doesn't say their wrong didn't matter; it says you refuse to collect a debt that God never asked you to carry.
So here's a practical step for this week: name one person you've been holding something against, and ask God for the grace to release them. And when shame over your own past tries to creep back in, respond out loud with gratitude — thank God that the matter is settled.
Living in this kind of freedom changes how you face each day. You stop performing for approval, stop punishing yourself, and start extending the same mercy you've received. That's what it looks like to take Jesus' words seriously.
Dear Lord, thank You that Your forgiveness is complete and already paid for. Help me to stop carrying guilt You have already removed, and give me the grace to forgive others the way You have forgiven me. Amen.
