Hearts rarely grow callous overnight. It happens slowly, the way skin toughens from repeated friction. A prayer skipped here, a nudge from God ignored there, and before we know it, we have stopped feeling what we used to feel. If your faith has felt flat lately, that numbness might not be God's silence. It might be a hardened layer that has built up over time.

for this people’s heart has grown callous, their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; or else perhaps they might perceive with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, and I would heal them.’
The good news is that this verse is not a sentence without hope. It is an invitation. God says that when we perceive, hear, understand, and turn again, healing follows. He is not waiting to punish you for drifting. He is waiting for you to come back so He can restore what has grown dull and distant.
So how do you soften a calloused heart? Start by getting honest. Ask God to show you where you have stopped listening, and then be quiet long enough for Him to answer. Open your Bible expecting Him to speak, not just to check a box. When you feel that gentle tug of conviction, do not push it down. Respond to it right away, even if it is uncomfortable.
Try this today: set aside ten minutes with no phone, no noise, and no agenda. Simply tell God you want to hear Him again. That one small act of turning is the beginning of the healing He promises. Soft hearts are not made by accident. They are made on purpose, one listening moment at a time.
Father, I do not want a heart that has grown hard toward You. Soften me, open my ears, and help me recognize Your voice again. As I turn back to You today, I trust You to bring healing to every part of my life. Amen.
