Matthew 10:37

Jesus said some hard things, and this is one of the hardest. He is not telling us to love our families less. He is telling us that no person, not even the ones closest to us, gets to sit on the throne of our hearts. That place belongs to Him alone.

So what does this look like on a regular day? It might mean speaking up about your faith at a family dinner even when it feels awkward. It might mean obeying God when going along with the crowd would be easier. Sometimes it simply means caring more about what God says about you than what your family expects of you.

Here is the beautiful surprise: when Jesus comes first, we do not love our people less. We love them better. A heart anchored in His love can honor parents, forgive old wounds, and serve family without demanding that they complete us.

Take a moment and ask yourself honestly: is fear of disappointing someone keeping you from a step of obedience? Bring that to Jesus today. He is worthy of your first love, and He gives all the grace you need for hard conversations and costly choices.

Father, help me love You first and most. When following You costs me something, give me courage and peace. Teach me to love my family well from a heart that belongs fully to You. Amen.
