Most of us will never face physical danger for our faith, but we all know the pressure of caring what people think. We stay quiet when we should speak up. We soften what we believe to keep the peace. Jesus reminds us that people can only touch this temporary life, but they can never touch our soul or our eternity.
So where does this show up in real life? Maybe it's at work, where staying silent about your faith feels safer than speaking honestly. Maybe it's online, where a kind but clear word about Jesus might cost you followers or friendships. Maybe it's simply living differently than the crowd when nobody applauds.
Jesus isn't telling us to be reckless or rude. He is rearranging our priorities: honor God above human approval. When God is the One we answer to, people's opinions shrink to their right size. That truth turns panic into peace and silence into courage.
Here's a simple practice: each morning, tell yourself that you live for an audience of One. Then when the hard moment comes, take one small step of courage, like saying a kind but honest word or praying with someone who is hurting. Courage is a muscle, and every small act of faithfulness makes it stronger. And remember, the God you honor is also the Father who loves you.
Dear Lord, forgive me for the times I've feared people more than You. Give me a deep respect for You that outweighs every other fear, and the courage to live openly for You today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
