Loving your neighbor starts with simply noticing people. It's easy to rush through the day with our eyes on our phones and our minds on our to-do lists. But the coworker who seems down, the neighbor whose trash cans are still out, the friend who suddenly went quiet—these are all invitations to love.
Here's the practical part: love usually looks ordinary. It can be a meal dropped off, a text that says 'I'm thinking of you,' or five minutes of real listening without checking your watch. You don't need a grand gesture. You just need a willing heart.
Notice the standard Jesus gives: love others the way you already love yourself. You feed yourself when you're hungry and give yourself grace when you mess up. Today, try offering that same care to someone else—especially when they haven't earned it.
And don't skip the hard ones. Your 'neighbor' includes the person who irritates you and the family member you'd rather avoid. Loving them might look like patience, a soft answer, or simply letting go of a grudge you've been carrying.
Dear Lord, open my eyes to the people You've placed around me today. Give me a heart that loves generously, patiently, and without keeping score. Amen.
