Our natural instinct is to protect ourselves — our comfort, our plans, our reputation. We build whole lives around keeping what we have. But Jesus flips that thinking upside down: the more tightly we grip our own life, the more it slips through our fingers.
Losing your life for His sake rarely looks dramatic. Most days it looks ordinary: getting up early to pray when you'd rather sleep in, forgiving someone who never said sorry, telling the truth when a small compromise would be easier. These small surrenders are where real faith lives.
Endurance means doing it again tomorrow, and the day after that. When following Jesus costs you something — time, comfort, approval — it's tempting to pull back and protect yourself. Instead, ask Him for strength to keep going just one more day.
Here's the promise: nothing you give up for Jesus is ever wasted. What feels like loss right now is actually where real life begins. The life He gives back is deeper, freer, and lasts far longer than anything we could hold onto ourselves.
Dear Lord, forgive me for the times I've clutched my own life too tightly. Give me courage today to lay down my comfort and plans for You, and strength to endure when it costs me something. Thank You that what I surrender to You is never lost. Amen.
