Luke 9:11

Jesus had been trying to slip away for some quiet rest, but the crowds found him anyway. Instead of sighing or sending them off, he welcomed them. That one word, 'welcomed,' tells us so much about his heart. People were not an interruption to his mission; they were his mission.

Most of us have days when we just want to be left alone, and needing rest is not a sin. But the next time someone shows up needing your time, ask God for a welcoming spirit. You don't have to fix everything for them. Sometimes a warm reception is where someone's healing begins.

Notice what Jesus did after the welcome: he taught them about God's Kingdom and cared for everyone who needed healing. He looked after the whole person, both soul and body. Real love does the same. It listens to the heart and helps with the hands.

So who around you is hurting today? A neighbor, a coworker, someone in your own family? You can be part of God's answer to their need through a phone call, a meal, or a prayer offered right there in the moment.

And remember, the same Jesus who welcomed those crowds welcomes you. Whatever you are carrying today, whether exhaustion, illness, or worry, you can come to him without fear of being turned away.

Dear Lord, thank you that you welcome me even on my messiest days. Give me a heart that welcomes others the way you do, and use me to bring comfort and healing to someone who needs it today. Amen.
