Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.
On the cross, Jesus' final breath wasn't a cry of defeat. It was an act of surrender. Even in His worst moment, He placed Himself fully in His Father's hands and trusted Him with the outcome. That is one of the most powerful pictures of faith in all of Scripture.
Most of us live the opposite way. We grip our jobs, our relationships, our plans, and our worries so tightly that our hands are never open for God to work. Real surrender isn't just something we do at the end of life. It's a daily choice to say, "Father, this is Yours," whether the day brings joy or pain.
Try starting tomorrow morning with open hands. Before your feet hit the floor, name one thing you've been trying to control, maybe a problem at work, a strained relationship, or a fear about the future, and hand it over to God in prayer. Then, when anxiety creeps back in during the day, remind yourself of that prayer instead of taking the weight back on.
Here is the good news: the Father's hands held His own Son through death, and He did not let go. Those same hands are strong enough to hold everything you're carrying. You can trust Him with the small worries today, because He has proven faithful with the biggest things.
Letting go doesn't mean you stop caring or working. It means you stop carrying the full weight alone, trusting that God is working even when you can't see it. The peace you're longing for often comes right after you release your grip.
Dear Lord, today I place my worries, my plans, and my loved ones into Your hands. Help me trust You when I can't see the whole picture, and give me the courage to release what I've been gripping so tightly. Thank You for being a Father who never lets go. Amen.
