Jesus prayed for the very people who were hurting Him. Even while nails were in His hands, His heart was turned toward mercy, not revenge. That tells us something powerful: forgiveness isn't a feeling that shows up when the pain fades. It's a choice we can make right in the middle of it.
Maybe someone has wronged you deeply, and they haven't apologized or even realized the harm they caused. Jesus' example speaks directly to that moment. He forgave people who didn't understand what they were doing, and He forgave before anyone asked.
Here's a practical step: pray for the person who hurt you, by name, even if it's just one honest sentence. Ask God to bless them and to soften your own heart. It won't feel natural at first, but it breaks bitterness's grip before it takes root.
Forgiveness doesn't mean pretending the hurt didn't happen or letting someone keep harming you. It means releasing your right to pay them back and handing justice to God. Start small today, with the little irritations, so your heart is ready for the big ones.
Some wounds take time to heal, and that's okay. Keep choosing forgiveness one day at a time, and let God carry the weight you were never meant to hold.
