Be careful. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him.

Luke 17:3 · Forgiveness
Reflection 1

When someone hurts us, most of us swing between two extremes. We either pretend nothing happened, or we let the anger simmer until it spills out sideways. Neither one heals anything.

Reflection 2

Jesus points to a third way: go directly to the person. Not to gossip about them, not to vent to five friends, not to give them the silent treatment while you rehearse your grievances. Just an honest, private conversation. Something as simple as, 'Hey, what you said really hurt me, and I wanted to talk about it' can open a door that bitterness would have locked forever.

Reflection 3

And notice the other half: when someone is genuinely sorry, forgiveness is not optional. That means really letting it go — not bringing it up in the next argument, not making them grovel, not keeping them on probation. Real forgiveness says the debt is paid and means it.

Reflection 4

This is hard work. It takes courage to speak up and humility to let go, and honestly, we cannot do either in our own strength. But every time we try, we walk a little more in the freedom God has for us — and our relationships get stronger instead of quietly dying.

Prayer

Dear Lord, give me the courage to address hurt honestly instead of hiding it, and give me a soft heart that forgives quickly and completely. Help me love people the way You have loved me. Amen.
