John 8:34

Jesus speaks a hard truth here with total love: sin is not a pet we can keep on a leash. Every time we give in, we hand it another piece of the rope. What starts as "just this once" quietly becomes a chain we can't break on our own.

Be honest with yourself for a moment. Is there something you keep returning to — anger, gossip, impure thoughts, an old habit you swore you'd quit? Notice that it never delivers the freedom it promises. It always asks for a little more than you planned to give.

The good news is that Jesus doesn't just name the problem; He breaks it. So today, take one practical step: bring that hidden thing into the light. Tell God plainly, and if you can, tell one trusted believer. Chains lose their grip when they're no longer carried in secret.

Then guard the door. Remove the app, avoid the place, change the routine that leads you back. Replace the old pattern with prayer, Scripture, or a phone call to a friend. Staying close to Jesus daily is not a rule — it's how free people stay free.

Dear Lord, I confess the sin I've been excusing, and I don't want to be its servant anymore. Break this chain in my life and teach me to walk daily in the freedom You give. Amen.
