I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”
Jesus spoke these words to regular people, and His point was lovingly blunt: everything comes down to who you believe He is. Your eternity doesn't rest on your effort, your church attendance, or being good enough. That might sound harsh at first, but it's actually the best news there is. Salvation isn't a ladder you have to climb. It's a Person you trust.
But notice that believing is more than agreeing with facts about Jesus. Real faith leans your whole weight on Him, trusting His forgiveness on your worst day and His presence on your hardest day. So here's a question to sit with today: where are you still trying to earn what Jesus freely gives?
Living this out starts small. When guilt creeps in, say it out loud: "I'm forgiven because I trust Him." When worry about the future or even death itself starts pressing on you, remind yourself that your eternity rests on Jesus, not on your performance. That truth can steady you in the middle of an ordinary Tuesday.
And don't keep this to yourself. Someone in your life is carrying the weight of their sins with nowhere to set it down. This week, ask God for one natural, unhurried chance to point that person to Jesus with kindness, not pressure. Faith shared is faith that grows.
Dear Lord, thank You that eternal life rests on trusting Jesus, not on my own strength or goodness. Help me believe Him boldly today, especially in the moments when guilt and fear get loud. Give me the courage to share this hope with someone who needs it. Amen.
