If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.
Jesus is not handing us a formula for getting whatever we want. He's describing a relationship, like a branch staying connected to the vine. The promise about asking comes only after the staying. When we live close to Him, something changes: our hearts start wanting what He wants.
So what does remaining look like on a regular Tuesday? It means keeping His words in front of you. Read a few verses in the morning, then carry them with you. Write one on a sticky note, play Scripture in the car, recall a line of it when you're stuck in traffic or stressed at work.
It also means talking with Him as you go, not just in a quiet time that ends at 7 a.m. Send up short, honest prayers while cooking dinner, answering emails, or tucking in the kids. Prayer stops being a wish list sent into the distance and becomes a conversation with Someone who is actually with you.
Here's a simple test before you ask God for something today: does it line up with what He's been showing you in His Word? When your desires are shaped by His words, your prayers grow bolder and wiser at the same time. Stay connected first. The asking flows from there.
Father, help me stay close to You today, in Your Word and in the small moments of my day. Shape my desires to match Yours, and teach me to pray with confidence. In Jesus' name, Amen.
