You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
Here's something worth sitting with today: Jesus picked you first. Before you prayed a single prayer, before you did anything good or bad, He chose you and gave you a purpose. You're not in this relationship because you impressed God. You're in it because He wanted you.
That changes how we pray. Too often we come to God feeling like we have to earn a hearing, like prayer is a performance we keep failing at. But Jesus said we can ask the Father directly, in His name, and be heard. So today, pray boldly. Come to God like someone who was invited, not someone sneaking in the back door.
And notice the fruit part. Jesus didn't appoint you to just get by, be nice, and survive the week. He sent you to produce something that lasts. That might look like patience with your kids, forgiveness you've been putting off, or a word of encouragement to a coworker who's struggling. Lasting fruit is whatever leaves people better because you passed through their day.
So try this: before you check your phone tomorrow morning, ask God one simple question. 'What fruit do You want to grow through me today, and what do You want me to ask You for?' Then pray about it like it actually matters, because He promised to answer prayers prayed in His name. You were chosen for this. Live like it.
Dear Lord, thank You for choosing me before I ever chose You. Help me bear fruit today that lasts and give me the boldness to ask You for what I truly need. In Jesus' name, Amen.
