Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father.
When Jesus spoke these words, He was talking to ordinary people — fishermen, a tax collector, folks who doubted and stumbled just like we do. He wasn't describing some elite group of super-saints. If you believe in Him, this promise has your name on it.
It's easy to read this and think, "That was for the disciples, not for me." But Jesus said "he who believes," and that door is wide open. The same Spirit who empowered Him now lives in everyone who trusts Him — including you, this morning, right where you are.
So what does that look like on an ordinary Tuesday? It looks like actually praying for the coworker who mentioned they're sick, instead of just saying "I'll be thinking of you." It looks like speaking an honest, kind word to someone who's struggling, forgiving when it costs you, and serving when nobody claps.
Here's the key: Jesus isn't asking you to generate power from your own tank. He's inviting you to be a channel. That's why He pointed to the fact that He was going to the Father — the work continues through us because He's now sending His Spirit without limit.
Don't wait until you feel qualified or impressive. Start small, start today, and stay available. The "greater works" often happen quietly — a marriage healed, a heart softened, someone meeting Jesus through your simple obedience — and you may never see all the fruit, but God does.
Father, thank You that Your power isn't reserved for a special few. Help me believe today that You can work through my ordinary life — at home, at work, and in every conversation. Give me the courage to say yes when You prompt me. Amen.
