When life knocks us down, our first instinct is usually to defend ourselves. We want to prove people wrong, save face, or show everyone we're doing just fine. But this verse points us in a completely different direction. The low place isn't where we lose — it's where God steps in to lift us up.
So what does humility look like in real life? It looks like saying 'I was wrong' to your spouse or coworker instead of making excuses. It looks like asking for help when you'd rather pretend you have it all together. It looks like really listening to someone instead of waiting for your turn to talk.
Humility also shows up in the things you do quietly. Serve someone without mentioning it. Do good work even when nobody will see it. When you stop needing the applause of others, you make room for God's approval — and that's the only credit that lasts.
Maybe you're in a low season right now. A failed project, a broken relationship, a season of waiting. Don't scramble to rebuild your image. Instead, get honest with God about where you are, and let Him do the lifting. He has a way of raising up humble people in ways that quiet pride never could.
Dear Lord, teach me to walk humbly with You today. Help me admit when I'm wrong, serve without seeking credit, and trust You to lift me up in Your perfect timing. Amen.
