Job 12:12

There's a kind of wisdom that can't be downloaded or rushed. It comes from living through seasons we haven't faced yet — losses weathered, mistakes made, prayers answered in unexpected ways. The people around us who have walked more years with God carry treasure we often overlook.

Today, think about the older people God has placed in your life. Maybe it's a grandparent, a longtime church member, or a neighbor who's seen a lot of life. When was the last time you asked them a real question and just listened? A fifteen-minute conversation could hand you insight that saves you years of trial and error.

This verse also challenges how we treat our own growth. If you're young, don't despise the slow pace of becoming wise — it's meant to take a lifetime. If you're older, don't retire from sharing what you know. Your story might be exactly what someone younger needs to hear this week.

Practically, try this: reach out to one person a generation ahead of you and ask, "What's something you've learned about God that you wish you'd known earlier?" Then resist the urge to talk. Write down what they say. Wisdom multiplies when we humble ourselves enough to receive it.

Dear Lord, give me a humble heart that values the wisdom of those who have walked farther than me. Help me to listen well, honor my elders, and grow slowly in understanding that lasts. Amen.
