We all know what drifting feels like. Maybe prayer slowly became a habit of the past, or a choice pulled you somewhere you never planned to go. Whatever the distance between you and God, here is the amazing truth in this verse: He does not meet your return with a lecture. He meets it with open arms.
Notice that God does not say, clean yourself up first, then come back. He simply says, return. The invitation stands right now, exactly as you are. Shame tells us to hide, but mercy tells us to come home.
So what does returning look like today? It can be wonderfully simple: an honest prayer, a quiet moment of confession, opening your Bible again, or walking back into a church community. Do not wait until you feel worthy, because worthiness was never the requirement. God's mercy, not your performance, is what welcomes you back.
There is one more layer here. The patience God shows you should shape the patience you show others. If He does not hold your failures over your head forever, you can loosen your grip on the person who hurt you. Forgiveness received becomes forgiveness given.
Merciful Father, thank You that Your love never runs out, even when I wander. Help me come home to You today without shame, and give me the grace to forgive others the way You forgive me. Amen.
