James 4:8

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded.

James 4:8 · Purity
Reflection 1

Sometimes we wait around for God to close the distance between us, but this verse flips that around. The invitation starts with us. Take one small step toward Him today, and He promises to meet you there.

Reflection 2

Practically, that step might look like turning off your phone for ten minutes to pray, or opening your Bible before you check the news. It doesn't have to be dramatic. God honors honest, ordinary effort.

Reflection 3

Drawing near also means dealing with whatever is pushing Him away. Maybe it's a habit you keep excusing, a grudge you're holding, or words you need to make right. Name it, confess it, and ask Him for the strength to change it.

Reflection 4

And watch out for a divided heart, wanting God on Sunday but living by your own rules the rest of the week. Ask Him to make your desires single and clean. A whole heart finds a whole lot more of God.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I'm taking a step toward You right now. Clean out anything in me that doesn't belong, and make my heart whole for You alone. Thank You for promising to come close. Amen.
