James 1:21

A garden can only grow what's planted in good soil. James gives us that same picture: before God's Word can take deep root in us, some weeding has to happen. The grudges we nurse, the junk we watch, the little compromises we excuse—all of it crowds out the seed that could actually change our lives.

So ask yourself honestly: what needs clearing out of your heart today? It might be one habit, one resentment, or one thought pattern you've carried for years. Instead of pretending it's harmless, name it before God and deal with it.

Then comes the humble part. Receiving the Word with meekness means opening the Bible like a student, not a critic—letting it correct us, not just comfort us. It means actually obeying what we read, even when it stings a little.

Try this today: open your Bible before you pick up your phone, even if it's only for ten minutes. Write down one thing God shows you, then take one small step of obedience before the day ends. A humble heart doesn't just hear the Word—it makes room for it.

Dear Lord, show me what needs to be cleared out of my heart so Your Word can grow deep in me. Give me a soft, teachable spirit that welcomes Your truth and lives it out. I want You to change me from the inside out. Amen.
