Isaiah 61:3

Some mornings, heaviness shows up before your feet even hit the floor. Maybe it's grief over a loss, a disappointment that still stings, or a hard season that has stretched on too long. Here's the good news: God doesn't scold you for feeling that way. He comes close to people who mourn.

Notice what this verse says God does — He trades with us. He doesn't just take away the ashes; He hands us something beautiful in their place. He's not asking you to pretend you're fine. He's inviting you to exchange what's crushing you for something only He can give.

Praise is one of those exchanges. When your spirit feels heavy, praise is usually the last thing you want to do — and that's exactly what makes it so powerful. Today, try putting it on like a piece of clothing: play a worship song while you get ready, thank God out loud for three specific things, or tell one person what He has done for you. That's not faking joy. It's choosing to remember who God is while your feelings catch up.

And here's the promise: people who trade ashes for praise don't end up weak — they end up planted. Like a strong tree with deep roots, they can stand through the next storm that comes. Your praise today might even become someone else's hope tomorrow, and that brings God glory.

So if grief is sitting on your chest this morning, you don't have to carry it alone or carry it forever. Bring it to the One who is in the business of beautiful exchanges. Start small, start honest, but start with praise.

Father, I bring You my heaviness today and ask for Your joy in exchange. Help me put on the garment of praise even when it feels hard, and plant my roots deep in You so I can stand strong. In Jesus' name, Amen.
