Isaiah 50:7

Some days, life feels like a whole lot of pushing against the wind. Opposition, criticism, unexpected setbacks — they all whisper the same thing: just give up. The prophet in this verse faced real trouble, yet he made a decision before the trouble ever hit. He set his face like flint. That's old-fashioned language for stubborn, unwavering focus.

Notice where his confidence came from. He wasn't saying, 'I'm tough enough to handle this.' He said, 'God will help me, so I won't be put to shame.' His determination wasn't rooted in willpower — it was rooted in trust. When you know Someone has your back, you can face hard things with a steady gaze instead of darting eyes.

So how do you live this out today? Start by naming what's trying to steal your focus — the difficult conversation, the slow progress, the fear that keeps circling. Then make a choice ahead of time: 'I will not be shaken by this. God is helping me.' Decide before the moment comes, because flint is set, not improvised.

A simple practice: when you wake up, look toward your hardest task or heaviest worry and say out loud, 'The Lord will help me today.' Repeat it whenever your eyes drift back to the problem. Focus isn't about never getting distracted — it's about knowing exactly where to look again.

And here's the promise tucked inside: you won't be disappointed. Not because life gets easy, but because God never fails the one who keeps looking to Him.

Dear Lord, thank You that Your help is certain even when everything around me feels shaky. Today I set my face like flint — keep my eyes on You and not on the obstacles. I trust You to carry me through. Amen.
