Isaiah 45:16

Everyone builds something to lean on. For some it's money in the bank, for others it's a career, a relationship, or the approval of people around them. Isaiah describes what eventually happens to those things: they leave us disappointed and confused.

It makes sense when you think about it. Anytime we ask something to carry weight it was never designed to hold, it collapses. The promotion comes but the emptiness stays. The account grows but the worry doesn't shrink. Idols make big promises and never deliver.

Here's a practical question to sit with today: where do you run first when life gets shaky? What do you check the moment you wake up, or what thought calms you when you're afraid? That's often where your real trust lives.

Once you spot an idol, don't just try to remove it—replace it. Each time you catch yourself leaning on it, name it honestly before God, then deliberately turn and place that same worry or hope in His hands. He is the one thing in your life that will never let you down.

This isn't about shame; it's about freedom. God isn't waiting to scold you for trusting the wrong things—He's inviting you to trust the right One. Swapping an idol for the living God is the best trade you will ever make.

Father, show me the things I've been leaning on that were never meant to hold me. Give me the honesty to name them and the courage to let them go. Today I choose to put my full trust in You, the God who never disappoints. Amen.
