Isaiah 41:29

We all have things we lean on when life feels shaky. Maybe it's money in the bank, a certain relationship, a job title, or even the comfort of our phones. These things aren't evil in themselves, but they were never meant to carry the weight of our trust.

Isaiah pulls no punches here: anything we build our lives on apart from God ends up as wind and confusion. Wind you can't grab hold of, and confusion leaves you spinning in circles. That's exactly what happens when we chase substitutes for God — we work harder, worry more, and still feel empty.

So here's a practical step today: identify your false refuges. When anxiety hits, what do you reach for first? Be honest with yourself. Naming the thing is not shame — it's the beginning of freedom.

Then start small. Instead of scrolling first thing in the morning, spend one minute telling God what you're worried about. Instead of looking to other people's approval to feel valuable, remind yourself that God already knows you completely and loves you anyway. Solid ground is found in Him alone, and every small choice to trust Him trains your heart to stand there.

Dear Lord, forgive me for the times I've trusted things that can't hold me up. Show me my false refuges and teach me to bring my needs to You first. Help me build my life on You alone. Amen.
