The confused city is broken down. Every house is shut up, that no man may come in.
The verse paints a sad picture: a city in confusion, broken down, with every house shut tight and nobody going in or out. It shows what happens when a community loses its foundation. Fear takes over, people pull away from each other, and everyone ends up isolated behind closed doors.
That picture feels familiar, doesn't it? Today, so many people live lonely lives even in busy neighborhoods. When hardship comes, our first instinct is often to shut down and shut everyone out. But isolation only makes confusion grow worse.
Wisdom says to do the opposite. Keep your door open. Call the friend who has gone quiet. Check on the neighbor nobody else notices. Invite someone to share a meal. Simple acts of connection can bring light back into a dark place.
And if your own life feels broken down right now, don't stay locked up inside. God specializes in rebuilding what has fallen apart. Let Him in first, then let His people in. Order and peace begin the moment you open up instead of shutting down.
Dear Lord, when life feels like it is falling apart, keep me from hiding behind closed doors. Give me the courage to reach out to others and the humility to let others reach me. Thank You that You are my firm foundation when everything else shakes. Amen.
