Hebrews 9:14

Many of us carry old guilt like luggage. We ask God to forgive us, then turn around and rehearse the same failures in our heads all over again. But what Christ did on the cross goes deeper than our behavior. It reaches all the way into the conscience, the inner courtroom where we keep judging ourselves long after God has already closed the case.

Notice the order of things here: we are not just cleaned up so we can look better. We are cleansed from dead works so we can serve the living God. Some of our striving, doing things to earn God's approval or performing to feel worthy, was never giving life in the first place. It was dead weight.

So here is today's practice. When shame about a past sin resurfaces, do not punish yourself or scramble to make up for it. Instead, thank God out loud that the price was already paid. You are not pretending it never happened. You are trusting that it is covered.

Serving God from a clean conscience feels completely different from serving Him out of guilt. One is exhausting; the other is freeing. You do not obey to earn His love. You obey because you already have it.

Father, thank You that the blood of Jesus cleansed not only my record but my conscience. Help me stop replaying what You have already forgiven. Teach me to serve You today from freedom, not fear. Amen.
