Genesis 3:22

Ever since the garden, humanity has had a hunger to be the judge of good and evil for ourselves. Adam and Eve wanted knowledge on their own terms, apart from God, and it cost them everything. We make the same reach today whenever we trust our own judgment more than God's Word.

Our culture constantly tells us to follow our hearts and define our own truth. But here is the honest problem: our knowledge is limited. We see a tiny piece of the picture, while God sees the beginning, the end, and everything in between. Trusting our own understanding alone is like navigating a city with a map that's missing half the streets.

Notice something tender in this moment: God kept Adam and Eve from the tree of life. That restriction wasn't cruelty, it was mercy, because living forever in a broken, fallen state would have been a tragedy. In the same way, some of God's 'no's in our lives are actually His protection. What feels like a closed door may be a loving Father keeping us from harm we can't yet see.

So here is the practical takeaway for today: when you face a decision, resist the urge to simply ask, 'What do I want?' Instead ask, 'What has God already said about this?' Open Scripture, pray honestly, and seek wise counsel from people who walk with Him. The humility to say 'I don't know it all, but God does' is the kind of knowledge that leads to real life, not away from it.

Father, forgive me for the times I've trusted my own understanding more than You. Help me seek Your wisdom in every choice I make today, and give me peace when Your answer isn't what I expected. Thank You that even Your 'no' is always an act of love. Amen.
