Genesis 2:24

When God describes marriage here, the first word is 'leave.' That doesn't mean cutting off your parents or dropping old friendships. It means your priorities shift. Your spouse becomes your first earthly loyalty, and every decision — money, holidays, schedules — gets weighed with them first, not with anyone else first.

The second part is 'join' — or as some translations say, hold fast. In real life, that looks like showing up. It's choosing your spouse again on ordinary Tuesdays, not just on anniversaries. It means putting the phone down during dinner, having the hard conversation instead of going silent, and making time together a real appointment, not a leftover.

'One flesh' is a beautiful picture, but it's also a call to guard something precious. Purity in marriage isn't just about avoiding big betrayals. It's about the small stuff too: keeping your eyes and heart faithful, being honest about struggles, and refusing to let anything — old flames, secret scrolling, resentments you've nursed — quietly drive a wedge between you.

Practical step for this week: ask your spouse one simple question — 'Is there anything that's made you feel like you're not my first priority lately?' Then just listen. Don't defend or explain. That one honest conversation can do more for unity than a month of good intentions.

If you're not married, this verse still speaks: honor the marriages around you, and if you hope for one someday, start practicing loyalty and purity now. God designed love to be whole, honest, and undivided — and that's worth protecting in every season.

Father, thank You for designing love the way You did. Help me leave, hold fast, and guard what You've joined together — in my actions, my eyes, and my heart. Make me someone who protects purity and pursues unity every single day. Amen.
