Genesis 15:1

Abram heard these words at a low moment. He was old, childless, and still waiting on a promise God had made years earlier. Isn't that just like life? Fear tends to show up in the waiting room, in the gap between what God promised and what we can see.

Notice that God didn't start with explanations. He started with comfort: don't be afraid. Then He gave Abram two promises we can hold onto today. First, God is your shield. That means your protection doesn't depend on your strength, your savings, or your ability to control every outcome. Before you face that difficult conversation, that bill, or that diagnosis, remember that God goes before you.

Second, God is your reward, and not just any reward, but an exceedingly great one. He didn't say He would give Abram things. He said He Himself was the prize. Real prosperity starts there. Money, house, and health are blessings, but they can be lost in a moment. A relationship with God cannot be taken from you, and when you have Him, you have what matters most.

So here's a practical step: name your biggest fear out loud today, then hand it to God and thank Him for being your shield. Then look for one way He has already provided for you this week, and say thank you for it. And when you find yourself holding something too tightly, remember that if God is your reward, you can give generously and live loosely, because your treasure is safe in Him.

Dear Lord, thank You that You are my shield and my exceedingly great reward. Calm my fears today and help me find my security in You rather than in what I own or earn. I trust You to take care of me. Amen.
